About Desmoplastic Malignant Mesothelioma

Desmoplastic Malignant Mesothelioma or DMM is a condition that affects a person exposed to asbestos fibers. Asbestos was used in so many building and transportation structures in the 1960s when the height of the Industrial Revolution was at its peak. Mostly men were affected because their jobs required them to work with asbestos. As a result, most of them contracted deadly lung diseases which companies refused to assume responsibility for.

When the fibers enter the human body, it latches on to the lungs and kills the immune cells. It then starts to destroy the membrane lining the lungs and chest cavity, causing tissue to scar. Eventually, if left untreated, the lungs will fail because it is overwhelmed by the scarred tissues.

One would assume that asbestos is no longer a problem, but as recently as the 9/11 incident at the World Trade Center, Manhattan was exposed to toxic asbestos dust. Unfortunately, it has been established that there is a 50 year timeframe wherein the asbestos can affect a person after exposure. Already, people have contracted lung disease from the 9/11 disaster, which makes it an ongoing trauma, long after the debris has been swept away.

If you have any reason to believe you have been exposed to asbestos fibers, and fear  the possibility of having Desmoplastic Malignant Mesothelioma, have yourself checked immediately. There are treatments that can be prescribed, depending on what stage you are in, if you have Desmoplastic Malignant Mesothelioma at all.

You can also file for claims against the company or person that caused you to be exposed, and you can prove that the company knew about the dangers and presence of asbestos in your work environment.  If you can get compensation and you are at a stage wherein surgery is still possible, then you can recover and life a full life after.  With Desmoplastic Malignant Mesothelioma, time is of the essence.
